The University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (UAES), Umuagwo, successfully hosted a one-day Career Development Training Programme for 400-level students on August 25, 2025, at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies. The workshop, themed “Graduation, National Service, and Employment Opportunities: Smart Income Strategies,” was designed to prepare graduating students for life after university. The programme brought together university management, facilitators, and industry representatives to equip students with practical knowledge on entrepreneurship, digital skills, and career planning. Key sessions included guidance from representatives of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), who educated participants on business registration processes and the importance of obtaining a Tax Identification Number (TIN). Speakers emphasized the need for creativity, multiple income streams, and self-reliance. Students were introduced to practical income-generating opportunities such as tutoring, event planning, and small-scale business ventures. In addition, sessions on digital tools highlighted how platforms like Google applications, web development, cybersecurity, and virtual assistance can be leveraged for remote work and online business. The programme also addressed National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization and clearance procedures, ensuring that students are well-informed and prepared for the next phase of their academic journey. With a total attendance of 149 participants, the training had a significant impact by enhancing students’ entrepreneurial mindset, increasing awareness of formal business practices, and exposing them to technology-driven income opportunities. Participants left the programme better equipped to navigate the job market, pursue self-employment, and adapt to evolving career landscapes. Overall, the initiative successfully strengthened students’ readiness for post-graduation life, fostering innovation, self-reliance, and proactive career development.
